Vermont has a mystique all its own among the New England states. Nestled between New Hampshire, New York, and the Canadian border, the Green Mountain State is an outdoors lover's dream, with mountains, rivers, and forests everywhere you look. We've already explored some of our favorite Maine and New Hampshire ATV and side-by-side destinations, and it's time to visit Vermont on the aluminum trailer adventure tour!
Like other New England states, Vermont has miles of exciting ATV and side by side trails. But it doesn't have the same history of four-wheeler-friendly culture that New Hampshire, in particular, is known for - and the requirements to ride in Vermont are still pretty strict. To legally ride in Vermont, you must join VASA (Vermont ATV Sportsmen's Association) and display a Trail Access Decal on every ATV/UTV. Be sure to plan your road trip accordingly, review the state laws for four-wheeling, and take care of any paperwork before you hitch up the aluminum side by side trailer!
Nestled between New Hampshire and the Canadian border, Vermont's Northeast Kingdom region is full of outdoor adventure and charming small towns. Some ATV clubs in this region have made it their mission to develop the area as a four-wheeling destination.
Clubs like the Northeast Kingdom Wheelers and Tri-County ATV Club provide trail maintenance and informational resources. Some towns in this area, like Newport, have become more ATV-friendly in recent years, creating new opportunities for visitors to the region! Set up your home base at a local campground and enjoy picturesque views, small towns, local bites and breweries, scenic drives, and exploring the great outdoors.
For an immersive experience in the mountains, visit the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont. This is the perfect adventure for hitching on a side by side trailer camper conversion! For off-roading, there are several trail systems around the perimeter of the National Forest. Check the Polaris Ride Command for locations and information to help you plan your visit!
Join a guided side by side tour for a chance to explore Killington Mountain. While riding on the mountain is limited to guided access, the nearby off-road trails maintained by the Central Vermont Quad Runners are accessible to riders with a Trail Access Decal. Camp in a nearby state park or right at Killington Mountain -- a serious ski destination during winter months!
