Looking for a new ATV trailer? You’re already on the right track when you choose an ALCOM aluminum trailer. When you want to haul all terrain vehicles (ATVs) or utility task vehicles (UTVs or side-by-sides), ALCOM makes it easy with a huge array of options.
But which trailer style, size, and options are right for you? With so many ATV haulers available from ALCOM’s family of aluminum trailer brands, it might be tough to choose.
Our ATV trailer buying guide is here to help!
Open or Enclosed? Start Here
Start by thinking about whether an open or enclosed ATV trailer is going to be the best investment for your lifestyle.
With an open style trailer, you can add more extra features, or get a bigger trailer, before you have to increase your budget. An enclosed trailer is more expensive, due to its four walls and that sweet spring-assist ramp door that keeps your cargo locked inside.
With an enclosed trailer, you get four-season protection from the elements for the gear you haul. For those in dry, temperate places, you may prefer to spend your budget on upgrades instead of enclosure. For those who live in rainy places, maybe an enclosed trailer is your best bet!
Whether you choose an open or enclosed aluminum trailer for your ATV and UTV towing needs, ALCOM has a trailer that’s right for you. Let’s look at open styles first.
Open Utility Trailers for ATVs and UTVs
Need the ultimate versatile open aluminum trailer? Consider a utility trailer from ALCOM that’s rugged enough to haul your ATV, side-by-side, lawn mower, new fridge … you name it.
If you already have an ALCOM open style utility trailer, you might already have everything you need to haul your ATV anyway. Verify that your trailer has the right payload to support your vehicle, and plenty of tie-downs like recessed D-rings. Ramps for loading and unloading are also key, and ALCOM wouldn’t let you buy a utility trailer without a ramp (unless it’s our tilting model, of course)!
We like the FIT series from our Triton Trailers brand because it combines all the utility and ATV / UTV trailer features you need and lets you customize the perfect fit. Choose wood or aluminum decking options, cargo tie-downs galore, and a huge range of trailer sizes to let you haul all your toys.
Open ATV Trailer Superstars
We love our outdoor adventure-ready 83” and 88” open ATV trailers for so many reasons. Similar to our utility trailers, they can also pull double duty - don’t shy away from loading your new lawn mower or the materials for your kids’ new swingset onto an ALCOM ATV trailer.
But we built these trailers specifically to address getting ATVs and UTVs to the trail head, so let’s look at the features designed to make that part better than ever. The differences between the models will help you make your selection, and each style has slightly different standard features.
Built with ALCOM’s standard all aluminum, all welded construction, the 83” and 88” open ATV trailers both feature all aluminum construction, 24” O/C crossmembers and 2” x 3” subframe tubing. They come with recessed LED marker lights and removable ramp options.
The 83” open ATV trailer is available in 10’, 14’ and 16’. It comes with Dexter leaf spring axles and 5/4” pressure treated decking. Upgrade from light-duty surface-mounted D-rings to heavy-duty recessed D-rings for tougher tie-downs.
The 83” open ATV trailer’s ramp and rails are its shining stars. First, check out the front and rear side panels. They’re not just rails to add security to your cargo in transit - they’re also removable ramps that can be positioned for loading at the rear or side of your trailer. And with custom designed angled side rails, the 83” open ATV trailer lets you bring more on the adventure because you can load an ATV or UTV from different angles and customize your cargo layout!
If you need just a bigger ATV trailer, though, check out the 88” wide open trailer. Its wider deck and deckover design let you maximize usable cargo space. Its ½” marine tech plywood decking is designed for long-lasting water resistance, but you can upgrade to extruded aluminum, too. Available with 8.5’, 10’, 12’, 14’ or 18’ deck. Upgrades are available for the trailer’s axles, wheels, and ramps.
UTV Racks for Traveling Light
What if it’s just you and your side-by-side heading off on an adventure, and you don’t need a whole trailer? Maybe you need to fit into smaller parking spots, or just don’t want to drive with a trailer. If you have an ALCOM UTV rack, your pickup truck is all the trailer you need.
This all welded, all aluminum, truck bed-mounted rack fits inside a wheel base width of 46” or larger. It features telescoping ramps for smooth loading and unloading. Secure your side-by-side with four welded deck hooks and two front welded tie-downs.
Do Open ATV Trailers Have Any Drawbacks?
Sure - maybe. It really depends on what you need, prefer, and what’s in your budget.
If your tow vehicle isn’t rated for a heavier trailer, a lighter open model can be a great choice. Likewise, if you just don’t need an enclosed, lockable trailer, an open trailer is an excellent choice that you’ll use for years to come.
But if you need an enclosed trailer with locks, lights, or even cabinets and a generator, then you know ALCOM has plenty of those, too. Let’s look at the enclosed options for your side-by-sides and ATVs.
Enclosed ATV & UTV Trailers
ALCOM designs enclosed motorcycle and UTV haulers that are also great for hauling ATVs. Get the extra security and versatility of an enclosed trailer that can haul your ATV, a side-by-side, or a motorcycle.
These trailers are great for those who have multiple motorsports toys that need transport, because you can load up the ATV one weekend and the motorcycle the next with no problem. Get standard features like a spring assisted rear ramp door, dome lights for anytime cargo access, and a roof vent.
