Big Sky Country UTV Excursions

When the snow melts and spring finds its way over the mountains and meadows of Montana, it's time to gas up the UTVs and kick off four-wheeling season.

Versatile ATV/UTV Trailers

Some of our favorite UTV trailers for four-wheeling season are the 83" and 88" wide open models built to fit most ATVs and side by sides on the market. These open deck trailers have all-welded, all-aluminum frames with optional D-rings and versatile loading options. The 83" wide model has fixed side rails, with front and rear rails that convert to loading ramps. The 88" wide model has side rails that convert to ramps, allowing you to load ATVs from the front, rear, or side of the trailer and fit more vehicles on the deck.

Prefer an enclosed model? ALCOM builds those, too, with every option you can imagine. Open or enclosed, your local ALCOM dealer can help you get the perfect side by side trailer for your off-roading adventures!

Where to Roam

Montana is a big state, so you'll probably want to pick a home base with multiple days' worth of riding nearby -- and avoid trying to cover the whole state in one trip! We've rounded up a few destinations to help kick-start your adventure plan. Don't forget to review state and local requirements for ATV registration, permits, helmet and safety laws, and other important details before hitching on your trailer!

Western Montana

In Whitehall, Montana, visit Pipestone OHV area and explore about 75 miles of trails, open to motorcycles, mountain bikes and ATVs. Stay up to date with the Pipestone OHV Facebook page for trail status and other information. Visit the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park, about 15 miles from Pipestone, where camping and hiking is available and you can explore some of the most fascinating limestone caverns in the USA.

Snowmobiling in the winter, four-wheeling in the summer -- that's what you'll find in the West Yellowstone, Montana area! Although OHVs aren't allowed in the National Park, there's an extensive, well-maintained network of trails in the area that offer views of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming!

Terrain ranges from smooth logging roads to expert rough terrain. Download a free trail map and get ready to explore. While you're in the area, check out the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center for an unforgettable view of incredible wildlife.

Eastern Montana

On the eastern side of the state, along route 94, find off-road and wilderness adventure. Discover 110 acres of isolated trails at the Terry Open OHV area, a "pack in, pack out" open riding area that has no facilities or designated trails - just beautiful wilderness to explore. It might just be the perfect spot to haul your DIY ATV camper trailer!

Short Pines OHV, near Glendive, is only about 40 minutes from Terry Open OHV. The Short Pines area offers 2800 acres of open riding, featuring trails for all skill levels. This large tract of BLM land is located adjacent to Makoshika State Park, which offers hiking, camping, year-round programs, and dinosaur fossils.
