Raft, Paddle & Ride in Vermont with ALCOM

Scenic hiking trail in Vermont with a boardwalk constructed through the trees.

Looking for a nature-focused escape in New England? Today's ALCOM adventure finds us in Vermont, where ATVs may not roam as freely as they do in Maine and New Hampshire, but plenty of outdoor pursuits are calling - and your ALCOM trailer is ready to help!

Unlike its New England neighbors, Vermont doesn't touch the coast. It's nestled between New Hampshire to the East and Massachusetts to the South, with New York to the West and the Canadian border to the North. Vermont's geography includes the Green Mountains, the Eastern shore of Lake Champlain, and hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, biking, and more outdoor adventures.

An Outdoor Lover's Paradise

Vermont has long had a reputation for being a little bit different -- doing things its own way, walking out of step with trends, and pushing the limits. The state is largely forested, and mountains paint the horizon everywhere you look. As of 2020, Vermont was the second-least-populated state in the USA! This leaves lots of room to play outside -- and that's one of the things Vermont is known for.

Hiking, kayaking, and fishing in warmer months, and skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, provide endless fresh-air fun. With mountains like Jay Peak and Killington, Vermont is home to some of the best skiing in the East. It's also the birthplace of the snowboard! With the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail meandering through the state, a National Forest, and State Parks to enjoy, there's more to explore in Vermont than we can cover in one post. So pack your water bottle, sunscreen, and hiking boots and head to Vermont for four-seasons fun.

camping & hiking

A trip to Vermont is the perfect time to get comfy in your aluminum trailer camper conversion -- or to pack your gear in the trailer and set up a tent in one of Vermont's campgrounds. Try Gifford Woods State Park, located near Killington Mountain, for access to parts of the Long Trail, Appalachian Trail, and other hikes on and around Killington.

Mt. Mansfield, the highest peak in Vermont, is a must-hike. Surrounded by ski mountains like Stowe, Bolton, and Smuggler's Notch, Mt. Mansfield offers a variety of trails for different ability levels to reach its 4393-foot summit.

Mountain Biking

In Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, the Kingdom Trails are known as the "Moab of the East." For mountain bike enthusiasts, that's no small compliment! With over 120 miles of trails -- plus the Burke Mountain Bike Park for lift-accessed riding -- the Kingdom Trails are worth a visit, with options for daily, monthly, or annual membership to access the trails. Local campgrounds make a relaxing home base.

For more ski-town mountain-biking crossover, try Stowe and Killington. Ski mountains offer an ideal starting point for mountain bike parks.

Hitch your ALCOM utility trailer to your truck or SUV to haul the bikes and gear, or pack up your enclosed trailer camper conversion for a mountain bike retreat.

River Raft & Kayak adventures

Maybe you're headed to Vermont for something a little quieter -- like fishing the state's beautiful lakes and rivers. ALCOM’s aluminum raft trailers are built for lightweight, easy, convenient raft hauling. Get a winch, a roller, and plenty of tie-downs. Water-resistant decking is key. An optional tilt bed makes it easy to load and unload by yourself.

Prefer a kayak for your river excursion? ALCOM builds a trailer for kayaks, too -- designed to fit almost any kayak style, with capacity for up to six boats! Get welded tie-downs and sealed lights and wiring harnesses for durability.

So if you’re an angler looking to explore the lakes and rivers of Vermont, load up with an aluminum trailer to get your watercraft around easily.
